WEMX (94.1 FM, "Max 94.1") is a radio station which serves the Baton Rouge area. The Cumulus Media station broadcasts with an ERP of 100 kW and is licensed to Kentwood, Louisiana. WEMX broadcasts an Urban Contemporary music format. The station was assigned the WEMX call sign by the Federal Communications Commission on November 1, 1996.
Max94One, which originally served McComb, Mississippi before moving into Baton Rouge in 1993 as a country music outlet (as WYCT and later as WEMX), flipped to R&B/Hip-Hop on January 1, 1997. The WEMX calls and Max 94.1 handle is a holdover from its former format. Their current slogan is "#1 For Hip-Hop And R&B!"WEMX-FM was taken over by Citadel Broadcasting after that, and since September 2011, Cumulus is the owner of the station after Citadel was taken over by Cumulus.
